confessions of a canoeist
yesterday marked the start of thirty days without official school lessons. i rmb i refused to use the word "holidays" before, cos according to my reliable dictionary
holidays
n
period of time away from everyday work, used esp for travel, recreation and rest
oxford wouldnt lie, i believe. hence it can be concluded that "holidays" simply dont exist. so there.
one month = four weeks = thirty days = 720hrs = 43, 200 mins. seems pretty long at first glance. but in canoe calendar, we've embarked on a race against time. trainings, events, pep talks have led up to this point where everyone's emotionally-charged. although sometimes i feel i'm in no position to talk about this whole fighting spirit that's affecting the team in one way or another, it's crystal-clear how much (i.e. very very extremely to the power of infinity much) canoe - the sport, the people - means to each and everyone of us. suddenly the floodgate of memories, of hopes and dreams, or fears and anxieties, of goals and desires is swung wide open. yes it gets overwhelming, yet i feel this incredible sense of pride being part of it and the intensity of my feelings for the team overwhelms me more. subconsciously, my heart cringes a little, to see seniors tear, see them frown in frustration to perfect their strokes, see wenyi lying on her back after pia-ing on water. on the contrary, seeing seniors with tired but satisfied smiles aft trg, hearing their animated conversations, seeing a rare chuckle from haoxia has a reverse effect. (: looking through huiwen's pictures, reading wenyi's email, there's really a whirl of thoughts and sentiments in my mind now. from experiencing the inital insignificance during the first few months of trgs, with junior teammates coming and going and land trgs seeming like courting eventual doom.. to the present; macritchie is where we belong in our soiled jerseys and wet tights, the shed is where 21girls (plus two big men) huddle when it pours. we've learnt to identify bottles, slippers, bags.. and my silent admiration for all fifteen seniors grow each day. wenyi, huiwen, lala, leilei, rina, yingxia, patrick, awyong, melissa, charlene, christine, amanda, wenqi, sharon, kityeng: JIAYOU (i mean it with my life) :D soph, rimmel, lihui, yihang, yimtong (get ur a** back in singapore girl!) : heck the small size of six, in the conquest of expansion, we shall continue to give our all for canoe. (must learn how to chopchop and go after trgs!) (:
life in hwachong wont be the same without hwachong canoeing girls.
:D :D :D
(let's not think about the scenario with six girls forming 2 short rows of three)
anw partner, FEAR NOT, the red dragon, and the many colourful boats dotting macritchie reservoir three metres away. we're in project paranoia together (:
to recap the week, sabbaticals sorta wasted my brain away, not that it incurred any displeasure though. just that my brain cells need to be reactivated in order not to die a horrible death when block tests draw near.
oh and thanks for the girls day out JALYX! :D
yesterday.. was a night to remember (:
